Pleroo

Affordable, temporary housing units
from circular-economy materials.

Container settlement under a grey sky
Problem
Especially in regions hit by crises, but in other cases too, we see a need for temporary housing that lets people feel at home, with dignity, until their own homes are rebuilt.
Furnished
Solution
We provide compact, prefabricated housing units of approximately 20 m² that offer a more durable, dignified and home-like alternative to emergency shelters while permanent housing is being rebuilt.
Circular
Circular
In a crisis, we tend to ignore sustainability for the sake of urgency and cost. With polycrises on the rise, we can't afford that anymore. That's why we use as much material from the circular economy as possible, and where new material is needed, we use bio-based materials.

We are starting small

We started to build a pre-fabricated prototype which we will bring to life step by step. The unit was developed at the Royal Danish Academy in Denmark, where we began working with re-used shipping containers, turning them into transportable, temporary housing units that can be set up and moved with minimal effort. Right now, we're looking for a partner to help us place this first prototype and take the next step together.

About Us

Pleroo was developed at the Royal Danish Academy and then founded as a young team with a background in architecture, civil engineering, and business development. Our first focus was affordable student housing in Greece, a country where the market is still heavily underdeveloped in the aftermath of the financial crisis. But the longer we looked at the problem, the more we saw that it reaches far beyond one country or one group of people. So we zoomed out and pivoted to a wider need: sustainable, temporary social housing for those who have lost theirs, or simply cannot find a place to live.
